I don't want to make this a movie review or anything, but its is about a little girl named Abby who is secretly a vampire. She has this guy who takes care of her at the beginning of the movie, going out and killing to get blood for her, and the love story is her meeting this little boy, Owen, who lives in the same apartment complex she just moved into. It's one of those movies that implies things, but they might just be in your head. The thing about these implications is that they drive you nuts.
(After this point, there's gonna be some spoilers, so if you really want to see this movie just read some of my other posts!)
Before we get to the implications, we need to clear some things up. Abby doesn't seem to physically age, so she's doomed to look like a 12 year old girl until she dies. This means that when she met the guy who takes care of her earlier in the movie, he might have been a kid just like Owen, and they might have had a similar courtship where he fell for Abby, learned her secret, and chose a life of serving her. The implications of this alone made me nuts, because the movie has a kinda doomed feeling afterwards; the seemingly happy ending of Owen running away with Abby is actually a continuation of an cycle of Abby having a boy fall for her and dedicating his whole life to killing for blood to feed her.
Furthermore, Abby throughout the movie kept telling Owen "I'm not a girl". At face value you could think she means she's a vampire, and though she has lady-parts she's not really a girl, but when you look into the book (and Swedish film) this version is based off of, Abby's words take on a dark tone once again. That's because in the book, the character Abby's based off of is actually a castrated boy who has been acting like a girl for the better part of 200 years.
Seriously, this movie just messes with your head. It's a great movie but you can't help but want more answers than are given.
Have any of you guys read books or seen movies that leave you feeling this way?
